Second Place-Arizona Highways Magazine's Photo Contest 2018-2019

Friday, May 17, 2019 was the day that I was informed by a photographer friend that I had won 2nd Place in the yearly photo contest for Arizona Highways Magazine!

Another photographer friend, Peggy Coleman, who runs the Facebook page "Birding--Arizona and the Southwest" posted comments about the contest and my 2nd place win.

"Oh, my EGRET!!  Tam Ryan has garnered 2nd place in the Anual Arizona Highways Magazine Photo Contest!  As many of you know, AHM is the premiere Magazine for Arizona as well as recognized and honored nationally.  Since it primarily celebrates the beauty (landscapes) of AZ to win 2nd Place for Wildlife is the supreme honor! Congratulations Tam Ryan! Here is the link to the winners page!"

I responded in comments:

"Peggy, thank you for announcing this on your page!  I want to thank ALL of my local and non-local friends on this page and elsewhere who have been a great influence in my progress as a bird photographer.  There was a time when I didn't know the difference between a Great Egret and a Snowy Egret. As it happens, my photo of Great Egrets in an early morning mist was chosen.  Thank you, friends and Arizona Highways Magazine

London Bridge Fog - Lake Havasu City, Arizona

One December morning in Lake Havasu City, I woke up to fog surrounding my house.  I knew that meant that The London Bridge would look like a London
fog.  So, I rushed over to the bridge with my film camera, a Nikon 8008s, and took a series of images. This one was my favorite.

Pete Moulton - In Memory

I found this picture of Pete Moulton and Benjamin Feller walking along one of the trails at Gilbert Riparian Preserve. You will be greatly missed, Pete Moulton. I recently ran into Pete when I was at Desert Botanical Garden on March 22, 2019. I introduced him to my 3 friends, two of whom had never met him. I told them how knowledgeable he was about birds and all types of bugs and in general so much of nature. His stories about them were a pleasure to listen to and learn about. He helped me so many a time with IDing birds, butterflies or dragonflies. Pete said that day that he hadn't been feeling all that well. I had no idea that he had been that sick. He never complained. Pete was a wonderful friend for the many years that I knew him and running into him at Gilbert Riparian or Papago Park. He will be so very missed by me and so many of us who have had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a wonderful photographer. Pete is now flying high with all of the birds and nature that he so dearly loved.
